HackneyOne of the few London districts with an elected mayor, Hackney lies in the north-east corner of central London and was formed when Stoke Newington and Shoreditch merged with the former Hackney district in 1965. The borough has been home to a diverse collection of cultures for centuries, with a large Jewish community present since the late 17th century and an influx of Asian and Afro-Caribbean immigrants after the Second World War.
